Internet-Drafts are draft documents valid for a maximum of six months and may be updated, replaced, or obsoleted by other documents at any time. It is inappropriate to use Internet-Drafts as reference material or to cite them other than as ''work in progress.'' To learn the current status of any Internet-Draft, please check the ''1id-abstracts.txt'' listing contained in the Internet-Drafts Shadow Directories on ftp.is.co.za (Africa), nic.nordu.net (Europe), Abstract This document defines the "administratively scoped IPv4 multicast space" to be the range 239.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255. In addition, it describes a simple set of semantics for the implementation of Administratively Scoped IP Multicast. Finally, it provides a mapping between the IPv6 multicast address classes [RFC1884] and IPv4 multicast address classes.

An Overlay Solution to Ip-multicast Address Collision Prevention

Multicast applications before they start transmitting content must choose a multicast channel on which to transmit. Unlike IP unicast addresses, multicast addresses are not long lived entity. Moreover many applications can choose to transmit data on the same channel. Every application which chooses to transmit data intended for receivers outside its own administrative domain must choose a globa...

Mobility Support for the Core-manager Based Scalable Multicast Routing

The Core-Manager based Multicast Routing (CMMR) architecture developed by the authors is a scalable multicast routing scheme in which the Core-Manager (CM) keeps tracking cores of each multicast delivery tree in order to maintain a brief image of the tree. Consequently, new members will almost always be directed to a nearby core to join the group tree so that tree cost is well conjined [1]. Fur...

Resource and Topology Discovery for IP Multicast Using a Fan-out Decrement Mechanism

As the use of IP multicast sessions becomes widespread, the potential benefits derived from currently unavailable topological information on multicast distribution trees may become increasingly critical. In this paper we propose a framework for discovering the topology of shared multicast trees based on a novel fan-out decrement mechanism analogous to TTL decrementing in IP. We propose an algor...
